Doris Ruth (Wooten) Shelley

Doris Ruth Wooten Shelley, age 88, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro with Rev. Edward Sumrall officiating. Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro are in charge of the arrangements.

Doris was born March 16, 1933, to William Riley and Eva Aline (Edison) Wooten. She grew up in the Hill County area. Doris was united in marriage to Charlie Lee Shelley on March 24, 1951. She valued education and encouraged all her family to pursue college degrees. She taught kindergarten at Central Baptist and Special Education for Hillsboro ISD. Doris loved to cook and noted most by family and friends for “Mimi’s Banana Pudding.” She devoted her life to working along side her husband and supporting her children and their spouses; her grandchildren and their spouses; and her great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Doris is survived by her children, Carolyn Hill (Kenneth), Pennie Sumrall (Edward) and Jason Shelley (Tommy); sister, Betty Meeks; grandchildren, Keri Hill Jones (Robert), Amanda Loggins Terrill (Cooper), Hanna Baskin-Sumrall (Emerald); and great grandchildren, Adison Jones, Asher Jones and Walker Terrill; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other special friends.
