Dovie Janell (Sherrill) Degner

Dovie Janell Degner, age 89, of Arlington passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at her residence. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. Frank Liedkie officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Dovie was born May 22, 1932, in Hillsboro, Texas to Leslie Bonard and Ida Dell (Napps) Sherrill. She grew up on a farm in the Osceola area of Hill County and she was one of 5 girls. Dovie met the love of her life W.F.  “Skeet” Degner and they were united in marriage at the Lutheran Church in Hillsboro on January 31, 1952, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2014. After the couple married, they moved to Arlington where she was a homemaker. Dovie worked for R-Tec in Euless for many years as an electronic technician, until her retirement. Her hobbies included her children and grandchildren, and she was an avid marble and card player.

Preceding her in death was her parents; grandson, Matthew Haynes; son-n-law, Bill Horn; 3 sisters, Louise Lewis, Lillian Mayo, and Patsy Glover.

Dovie is survived by her children, Janet Haynes and husband Jerry, Dianna Hudgins, Susan Jarcy and husband Billy, Wilton Fredrick Degner, Jr., Sandra Covington and husband Ron; sister, Jamie Magee and husband Glen; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
