Gary was born December 8, 1949 in Sebastopol, California to Laurence and Joyce (Baker) Wood. He grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School, in Dallas in 1968. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army in September of 1969 and was honorably discharged in February of 1972. In his younger days he liked martial arts, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed woodworking, drawing in his Auto CAD program, martial arts and Sci Fi movies. Gary loved to work in his shop, especially with his son-in-law, Ryan. If something needed fixing, he could fix it.

Gary was a very faithful Christian, who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ unconditionally and enjoyed reading and studying the bible. He loved being on the farm and being with his family and especially being Poppie, the “Tickle Monster,” to his grandchildren.
