Harry Fletcher Sims, Jr., 93, of Whitney passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 am Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Reverend John Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney
Harry was born on January 2, 1929, in Whitney, Texas, to Harry Sims Sr. and Ivalee (Voss) Sims. He married Bettye Joyce Robbins on February 24, 1952, in Whitney. They had one child, Paul Sims on August 28, 1956. Harry attended Tarleton College in Stephenville, Texas, and then transferred to Texas A&M. He then devoted his business life to “Farmers Hardware” and continued to grow it threefold to become SIMS ACE HOME CENTER INC. Harry loved serving the community. He served as Mayor from 1985 to 1991, served as a board member of Whitney Hospital Authority, he served in the National Guard, and used his learned experience to provide emergency health care via the local ambulance to serve the community and local hospital for many years. Harry was also a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Whitney.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joe Sims; and his wife, Bettye.
Harry is survived by his son, Paul Sims and his wife, Donna of Whitney; four grandchildren, Allyson Cliett and her Husband Rory of Whitney, Kristen Miller and her Husband Chris of Whitney, Kari Sims of Whitney, and Josh Sims and Wife Cara of South Carolina. Harry had eight great grandchildren, Carson Miller, Ethan Sessums, Kennedy Cliett, Mary Katherine Sims, Ivy Sims, Hill Sims, Liza Sims, and Helen Sims.
