James Hodges Obituary

James Weldon Hodges, 89, of Hillsboro, Texas, passed away Monday, November 23, 2021, at his residence in Hillsboro, Texas.  Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Central Baptist Church, 1100 Old Bynum Road, Hillsboro, Texas. Pastor Darrel Beggs will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Pallbearers will be Cody Whitten, Derreck Whitten, Marcus McCoy, Tanner Hodges, Hayden Whitten, Travis Giles, Taylor Sparks, Tucker Whitten, and Weston Whitten. 

He was born December 25, 1931, in Blum, Texas.  James married Lucille Porter on November 11, 1950, in Weatherford, Texas.  In 1966 James and Lucille moved to Hillsboro with their three children where James was founder and President of Towne Square Furniture Manufacturing, Inc. He eventually employed up to 465 employees until he retired in 1995.

In 2017 James met Martha Thornburg of Fairfield, Texas and they were married on May 22, 2017. Martha has been his wife and close companion for the last 4 years of his life.  James was a member of Central Baptist Church.  He loved his horses, tractors, and big earth moving equipment and treasured his family and being called Papaw.

James was preceded in death by his wife Lucille (Porter) Hodges, mother and father, James Henry, and Mamie Wanda (Briscoe) Hodges, siblings: Doris Medford, Joyce Giles, Wanda Miller, Bobby Hodges, and Gene Hodges.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Thornburg Hodges; son Wendell Hodges and wife Sherry of Burleson; daughters, Janice Hodges of Hillsboro, and Teresa McCoy and her husband Jay of Fort Worth; his sister Shirley Beckham and her husband Grover of Waco; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.

Donations may be made to Central Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
