Jerel Sims Turner, adored father, brother, son, grandfather, husband, and friend, was called home on August 26, 2021, at the age of 72. He left this world in peace and joy with his family at home in Whitney, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney with Pastor Gerald Dudley officiating. Burial will follow at Heath Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Jerel was born November 9, 1948, to Olin Oscar Turner and Dorothy Nell (Sims) Turner --“Dude and Dot”-- of Huron, TX. He was preceded in death by Mother and Daddy; brother, Jeffrey; and grandson, Logan. He was followed closely by the passing of his dear brother Boggs.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Turner; his children, Justin Turner, Jon Turner, and Haley Turner; his daughter-in-law, Gayla Turner; his grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Cassidy, Landon, Kamilah, Nevaeh, Madison, Ross, James, Josh, and Nick; his siblings, Jesse, Jody, Belinda, Jay Todd, Terry, Susie, and Jana; and many beloved cousins, in-law’s, nieces, and nephews.
Jerel was a sensitive, fun-loving man who was quick with a joke and loved to be with people. He loved American history, Mother and Daddy, and the Lord. He honored the ways of those who came before him and delighted in passing it on. He was a forgiving and loving man who saw God’s world with clarity and wonder, and he worked to the end to be with the Savior. His greatest honor was teaching the Way, the Truth, and the Life to the Sunday School children at Open Range. He would never miss a chance to remind you of the great fact of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ -- John 14:6 No one comes to the Father except through me. He was loved immensely, and his legacy lives on -- just as he does.
