Norvell Reid Obituary

Norvell DeWayne Reid, 86, of Hillsboro, Texas, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 13, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas, with burial to follow at New Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Marshal and Marshall, Hillsboro.

Norvell was born November 16, 1936, near Harrold, Texas, the ninth child of John Whitney and Ruby Mae (Pitts) Reid.  He grew up on a farm on the Red River in Wilbarger County and attended school in Harrold and Electra, Texas. 

He moved to the Fort Worth area in 1954 and got a job at the new General Motors plant in Arlington, where he retired after thirty-six years of service.  After retirement, he worked for Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Norvell attended Tarrant County Junior College and he proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He married the love of his life, Joyce Keefer, on April 2, 1977, in Alvarado, Texas. 

Norvell enjoyed fishing, farming and working outdoors, but his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally.   In addition to serving in the Navy, Norvell was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.  He was a member of the Woodbury Baptist Church where he attended regularly until he became ill.

Preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, J.W., Melton, Roy and Melbourne Reid; his sisters Francis Hilliard, Mary McLean, Lou Nell Steward and Dolores Burchfield; Norvell is survived by his wife of forty-six years; his brother Will and wife, Geneva Reid of Keller, Texas; his sons DeWayne and wife Cecilia Reid of Whitney, Texas, Whit and wife Emma Reid of League City, Texas, Aaron and wife Lavette Reid of Hemet, California, Johnny and wife Jamie Reid of Maddock, North Dakota, Chris Reid, Darrin and wife Bekah and Dakota Reid, of Hillsboro; his daughters, Mary Child and husband Richard of Spring, Texas, and Ruth Reid of Waco, Texas; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
