Rex Ernest Atchley, 72, of Milford, Texas, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 29, 2021, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas.
Rex was born on July 18, 1949 in Delta, Colorado to Reynold Atchley and Lucille Carpenter Atchley. He grew up in Delta, Colorado and graduated from Delta High School. He was blessed to have had aunts, uncles, and cousins in his formative years. He spent all his spare time outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish with his dad and mom. He also mowed lawns and had summer jobs.
Rex joined the Air Force during the height of the Vietnam War. He married Alice Rock in 1968. They spent the next 20 years being assigned to different bases. They lived in New Mexico, North Dakota, Spain, Nevada, Alaska, and Arizona. During that time, they raised 4 children; Robert, Raymond, Crystal and Megan. He loved living in Alaska where he hunted moose and elk and fished for salmon, halibut, and crab.
After he retired from the Air Force, he continued working on aircraft by earning his A&P mechanic license. He got a job in Texas in 1987 and resided in Waco, Azle and Milford.
He was a man of faith and dedicated his life to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a loving and generous husband, father, son, and brother. He believed in service and would help anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his wife, Alice and children; Robert of The Colony, Raymond of Hillsboro, Crystal of Milford and Megan Burke of Hillsboro. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, James of Paonia, Colorado, and a sister, Anna Ullrich of Missouri.
