Ricky Thomas Dunn

Ricky Thomas Dunn, of Clifton, passed away peacefully at home November 6, 2022, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Ricky fought his battle with cancer with faith and determination as he did all the other challenges he’d faced, but the struggle was won when God called him home.

Ricky was born October 17, 1946, in Clifton, Texas to Helen and Walter Dunn.  He graduated from Whitney High School in 1966 and married Glenda Johnson June 3, 1967.  They lived in Robinson, Texas until retirement when he moved back to Whitney.  

Ricky’s career in meat department management began at Safeway and concluded with Brookshires.  He was especially gifted at making connections with his customers and mentoring future leaders in the business. 

Ricky was a master mason for over 40 years.  He loved golfing, fishing and spending time with his family.  He was also a fantastic cook and enjoyed traveling with the “water industry people” in his wife’s work. His gift of gab and wonderful sense of humor always had a great connection with people. He was sharp and aquick-wittend with his friends. His photography captured beautiful sunrises with Facebook wishes of “have a God Day.”  He was a member of Open Range Cowboy Church and a gift to all who knew him.  

Ricky and Glenda celebrated 55 years of marriage and were blessed with three daughters and sons-in-law who survive him, Kristi Dunn and Neal Schmidt of Waco, Kari and Loyd Hopson from Mound and Lindsey and Will Pinner from Aquilla.    Known as “Bumpy: he was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Trent and Bailey Petzold, Kennedie Hyde, Tristan and Katie Hopson, and Laura and Jaxon Pinner and one great grandchild, Lucas Thomas Petzold. Also surviving are one sister, Tammie Klontz and her husband Dar of Laguna Park and two brothers, Johnny Dunn and wife Paula of Clifton and Nathan Dunn and wife Suzie of Coldspring.  

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Dunn Terry; his father, Walter Dunn and stepfather, Eugene Terry. 

Visitation will be held at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, November 10, 2022.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 11, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall with Pastor T.J. Burris officiating.
