Robert Edwin "Bobby" Owens

Robert Edwin “Bobby” Owens Sr. age 79, of Clifton passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 23, 2020. Graveside services under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Smith Bend Coon Creek Cemetery. Pastor Jay Morris will officiate.

Robert was born on September 18, 1940 in Cleburne, Texas to Harris and Marie (McCauley) Owens. He grew up in Cleburne and graduated from Cleburne High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Joyce Autrey on November 19, 1959 in Cleburne. He worked for Tom Thumb grocery store for seven years as an assistant manager, he also worked at Bell Helicopter as a wrapper and packer in the shipping department. While pastoring at Smith Bend Baptist Church he attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in FT. Worth and received `his degree in gospel ministry. He pastored churches from 1984 to 2003 including Smith Bend Baptist Church, Third Street Baptist Church in Waco, Westwood Baptist Church in Waskom, Bosque Valley Baptist Church in Clifton then to Lake Whitney Baptist Church in Whitney where he retired from in 2003. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney since 2003. Robert was an avid woodworker and he built the home he was living in.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grand-daughter Amanda Owens.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Autrey Owens, of Clifton; children, Kevin R. Owens and wife, Shuzi of Lindale, Kimberly K. Owens Green and husband, Boyd of Longview, Robert E. Owens Jr. and wife, Carlene of Waco; brother, Harris Owens and wife, Doris of Cleburne; sisters, Nancy Herrin and Betty Duckworth and husband Mike all of Cleburne. 9 grand-children and 10 great- grand-children.
