Ruth Elizabeth Westcott was born on June 21, 1940, to Beatrice and Walter Sherman in Rochester, New York. She was one of 13 children. She met and married William J. Westcott on November 28, 1959, at the First Methodist Church in Spencerport, New York. After marriage, they resided in Brockport, New York. While there, they welcomed two children, Kim and William (Buck) into their family. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of the family. In 1972 Bill accepted a promotion with 3M that moved the family from New York to White Bear Lake, Minnesota. While there, Ruth enjoyed her weekly bowling league, working at a local pharmacy and raising Kim and Buck. Many summers were spent traveling the United States as a family. Camping and rock collecting were highlights of those trips. They were able to travel to all 48 of the contiguous states and create many memories for Kim and Buck. They continued to enjoy life in Minnesota until Bill’s retirement in 1995. Once retired they sold their home in Minnesota, bought a motor home and continued to enjoy their travels across the American landscape. They finally made it to both Alaska and Hawaii to round out all 50 states. When they were ready for a break from their travels, they settled in Sun sites, Arizona for a time. In 2007, they made their final move to Whitney, Texas. The communities at the Open Range Cowboy Church and Whitney Resort continued to enrich their lives. Ruth loved her family, card games and trips to the casino. It always seemed to Bill’s chagrin; she came out on top while he fell a little short.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill, her daughter, Kim Morris of Savannah Georgia, and son Buck and his wife Susie residing in Norfolk, Nebraska. Grandchildren: Stephanie Braddy and husband Jerry, Justin Chernivec, Brendan Westcott and wife DeeAnna and Kaitlyn Merchant and husband Cody. Great Grandchildren: Lilly, Mia, Evie, Kinsley, Harper and Vallie. Also surviving are four sisters, Bea, Dee, Kathy and Sue.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and eight siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the Open Range Cowboy Church on November 4, 2023, with Gerald Dudley Officiating. A visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 am prior to service. Followed by a luncheon at the church.
