Sherry Lynn (Black) Sappington

Sherry Lynn Sappington of Whitney passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, in a Lancaster hospital.  She will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.  Funeral services will be held at a later date in Mississippi.

Sherry Lynn Sappington was born on June 12, 1958, in Memphis, TN. She was a caring wife, mother, Nanny, sister, and friend. She left this world on September 3, 2023, at the age of 65 with her beloved husband, Ledel Sappington, by her side.

Sherry was known for her infectious laugh, giving spirit, and open home. She spent her free time quilting, thrifting, and most importantly caring for everyone around her. She married her best friend on December 29, 2002, and together they have modeled a life of faith and love. She was a loving and proud mother, who centered her life around her kids. Sherry Lynn was well known for her role as “Nanny” and enjoyed taking care of all her grandbabies, no matter the distance.

Sherry Lynn is survived by her husband, Ledel Sappington; son, Mark Thompson and wife, Brooke Thompson; son, Brock Black; daughter, Leslie Wade; son, Chris Sappington and wife, Brandi Sappington; son, Rusty McIver and wife, Sara McIver; grandchildren Slade Thompson, Makayla Thompson, Malachi Thompson, Micah Thompson, Victoria Reeves, Errika Black, Brooklyn Black, Colton Black, Cody Henson, Cailyn “Bugg” Wimberly, Avery Wade, Leah Williams, Abigail Sappington, Scarlett Sappington, Trace Sappington, Heidi Sappington, Kashlynn McIver, Bristol McIver, Clifton McIver, Waylon McIver, and Fletcher McIver; sister-in-law, Monica Black; and sister, Pamela Black.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Black; father, Bud Black; brother, Bubba Black; and granddaughter, Callie Grace Wimberly.
