Steve was born to parents W.W. Also, at this time, he co-founded Reelsound, a custom mobile recording company, with partner Malcolm Harper. Later, he became an electrician in the construction firm Brown & Root and helped construct power plants and refineries all over the southwest. In 1972, he returned home and became a commercial and residential electrician serving Hill County. In 1977, he succeeded his parents in delivering newspapers in Hillsboro, expanding this business into a storefront and bookstore, The Newsstand.  Steve continued throwing newspapers for the rest of his life, going 30 years without missing a morning. He inherited his father's personal motto and lived life by it: "Nuf Sed."
