Sue Bell (Dobbs) Thomas

Sue Bell Thomas, 93, of Whitney passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at Town Hall Estates, Hillsboro. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Marshall & Marshall chapel in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. Visitation will be held from 1:00--2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Sue will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Marshall & Marshall.

Sue was born on July 23, 1927, to Lon and Fannie (Stewart) Dobbs in Whitney. Her mother passed away when Sue was very young.

Sue was so ready to be with her husband Rayburn Thomas who preceded her in death in 2008. Sue and Rayburn were side by side farmers and ranchers. They got married on August 14, 1944. The two of them worked together to start a cattle business. They became one of the first to start setting out coastal hay. As people got their coastal growing, Rayburn and Sue started a business bailing hay for other people. They both worked together until their health forced them to retire.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Juanita Brown, of Quinlan; two of her closest nieces, Betty Sue Millsap and her husband Bob, of Rio Vista, and Paula Day and husband James, of Hillsboro. Sue also had not only nieces and one great-grandson but several great- great- and great- great- great nieces. Rayburn’s family has stayed very close to Sue.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband Rayburn; her parents; sisters, Abby Lee Shafer and Helen Oleta Shipp; and one brother, William Frances “Bud” Dobbs.
