Susan Ray Obituary

Susan Covington Ray passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, December 25, 2020, in Grandview, Texas, at the age of 71.  She was born in Cleburne, Texas, on November 17, 1949.  Susan was raised in Grandview, Texas, and was a 1968 graduate of Grandview High School.  Her education continued at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, and the University of Texas at Arlington.  On May 2, 1969, Susan married the love of her life, George G. Ray, and they made their home and raised their children in Grandview.

Susan worked for Grandview Bank for 33 years and treated all her customers like lifelong friends.  After retiring from Grandview Bank, Susan became church secretary at First United Methodist Church in Grandview. Susan was a very faithful, dedicated, and lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Grandview and was active in Sunday School, the Adult Choir, and numerous church committees.  Every year, she spent countless hours in preparation for the annual Lord’s Acre fundraiser.  For many years at the beginning of the school year, Susan served on the Back to School Fair Committee and packed hundreds of “Back to School Backpacks” for the children of Grandview. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to serve others no matter the task.  She LOVED GRANDVIEW and supported the community wherever there was a need. Susan served on countless committees throughout her life, including Grandview Cemetery Association,  Grandview Community Center Association, Grandview Nursing Home Board, Grandview Chamber of Commerce, Grandview P&Z Board, Grandview PTO, and Grandview All Sports and Band Booster Club.

Susan was so full of life in everything she did. She was always so happy, and her smile would light up the room.  She made friends everywhere she went. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. If her kids or grandchildren were involved, she was involved.  She loved to play Bunco, Scrapbook, Bible Journal, Travel, and support/attend ALL of the Grandview Zebra football games.  She was honored by the Grandview Chamber of Commerce with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

Susan was a dedicated mother who treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as GiGi to Emerson and Bowen. She is survived by her son, Michael Ray (Amanda), daughter, Meghan Ray York (Pete), granddaughter, Emerson Ray and grandson, Bowen Ray. She is, also, survived by Lori Sue Youngblood King (David),  Loren Youngblood, Simon King, Ruth King, and Carroll Spradlin (Mike).

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, George Ray, her parents, Robert and Susie Covington, Jerrienne Covington Farrell, and Robbie Sue Covington Youngblood.   She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Pallbearers will be Harold Friesen, Wesley Mackey, Don Magby, Joe Smith, Steve Wells, and Loren Youngblood.

A CELEBRATION of Susan’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Grandview, Texas, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 11:00 AM with Rev.
