Thelma Doris (Vassar) Hill

Thelma Doris Hill, age 84 of Whitney passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Ted Evert officiating. A burial will follow at Itasca Cemetery in Itasca. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, October 30, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home.

Thelma was born July 31 ,1939, in Bono, Texas to Clarence and Idora (Harwell) Vassar. She grew up on McClung Ranch in Johnson County. Thelma lived in California and Texas throughout her life. She married Maurice McMullen in 1957 and he sadly passed in 1958. A couple of years later she met and married the love of her life, James Robert Hill in 1962 and they stayed married until his passing in 2012.. Thelma was a homemaker, raising her children and grandchildren. She loved needle point, card games, soap operas, and coffee. 

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Robert Hill; siblings, Roine Watson, Francis Smith, C.W. Vassar, Floyd Vassar, John Vassar, Gene Vassar, Billie Marie Braswell, and William (Moley) Vassar; grandchildren, Michael Taylor and Calvin McMullen; great-grandchildren, LeMandy Looper, James Looper, Sierra McMullen and Marshall McMullen.

Thelma is survived by her children, Dewey McMullen and Connie Taylor; grandchildren, Ricky Davis, Chanda Davis, Jamie Davis, Eugene Looper, Pamela Braswell, Jeffery Taylor, Kenneth McMullen; 20 great-children and 8 great-great grandchildren.
