Valerie Jeanne (Miller) Herring

Valerie Jeanne Herring, age 85 of Waco passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Maurice Janke officiating. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial park in Whitney. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Valerie was born February 14, 1936 in Hollywood, California to James Herbert and Alice Lynn (Byers) Miller. She spent several of her younger years there in California. She then moved to Hillsboro, Texas and graduated from Hillsboro High School. Valerie was united in marriage to Billy Joe Herring in Hillsboro. After her husband’s military service with the marines, they moved back to California for several years before moving back to White Settlement, Texas and then back to California for several years staying there till 1969 and then moving to Oklahoma. In 1970 they moved to Arkansas, then in 1972 they moved to Texas and spent the rest of her life here living in Peoria.

Valerie obtained her nursing degree in California, working in California, Arkansas, Grant Buie Hospital in Hillsboro and retired from Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco. She was an avid reader and coffee drinker.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Kathleen Ann Mitchell; and nephew, Douglas Garth Bruce.

Valerie is survived by her children, William Michael Herring of Waco, James Houston Herring of Waco, Darlinda Janke and husband Maurice of Woodbury and John Keith Herring of Hillsboro; 7 grandchildren, James Travis Herring, Jeffrey Glenn Herring, Kimberly Lauren Herring, Gina Lynn Janke Mata, John David Herring, Kevin Ryan Janke and Amy Diane Janke Urban; 9 great grandchildren, Mercedes Nicole Herring, Jordan Ray Mata, Brianna Leann Herring, Riley Ashlynn Mata, Rebecca Lynn Herring, Rebecca Lauren Urban, Abigail Reagan Urban, Edan Rhyan Janke and Peyton Herring.
