Velma Jane (Janie) McGee passed away in her home Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the age of 87 years and 12 days with her husband and loved ones by her side. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 10, 2021 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney.
Janie was born on September 10, 1934 in Aquilla, Texas to Edgar (Jack) Hartis and Grace Gregory Hartis. She grew up in the Aquilla area of Hill County where she attended and graduated school. She was a waitress for many years. Later in life, she worked for Wolf’s Manufacturing in West, Texas along with working at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro, Texas. She loved to cook, bake, sew, embroider and spend time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; Jack and Grace Hartis; son, Troy Gene Gatlin; first husband, Rhecie Gatlin; daughters, Lorraine Fogarty and Patricia (Patty) Winnett; grandson, Micheal Fogarty; and sister, Wanda Ward.
Her survivors include her husband, Roland (R.D.) McGee; grandchildren, Miranda Dillard, Misty Fogarty, Troy Winnett and wife, Belinda, Charity Douglas and husband, Steven; sisters, Patsy Williams, Linda Karlik and husband, Patrick, Glenda Gerik; brother, Jacky Hartis and wife, Patricia; aunt, Gladys McDaniel; eight great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
