William R Bentley

William (Bill) R. Bentley Sr., 74, of Whitney, Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, peacefully at his home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro.

Bill was born February 28, 1949, in Hillsboro, Texas to Marvin and Mary Ellen (Janes) Bentley. On October 19, 2013, he married Lorenda Lambert, in Las Vegas, enjoying many years of traveling to visit family and lake time in Mississippi.

Bill was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and spent his adolescent years working on his father’s farm. After moving to Whitney in 1992, he found his true calling. Serving the Hill County Sheriff's Department for twenty-seven years, Bill retired in 2018. He was able to share valuable life lessons and witty anecdotes with co-workers and visitors. The sheriff’s department was his second family. He was a jack-of-all trades and there was not anything he could not fix or repair. Bill was an avid firearm collector, vehicle aficionado, enjoyed a good book, and had an unwavering love for his animals, especially Mickey. He loved his family and spending time with them telling old stories.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Mary Ellen Bentley; and wife of thirty-six years, Connie Bentley. Survivors include his wife, Lorenda Bentley of Mississippi; four children, Jim Robertson and wife, Lisa, and Eric Robertson and wife, Kristi, all of Burleson, Prescha Weiss and husband, Brad, of Corpus Christi, and Bill Bentley, Jr. and wife, Jolenna, of Levelland; grandchildren; Josh Robertson, Seth Faglie, Tanner Robertson, Evan Robertson, Billy Bentley, Emma Bentley, Kelly Strahan, Abby Lambert, Jacob Lambert, and L.J. Neil; and great grandchildren.
