Randall Lee Wood, of Whitney, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on March 8, 1942, to William H. Wood and Juanita V. Middlebrook Wood.
Randy moved to Whitney with his family in 1975, where he quickly became a well-known and respected part of the community. He and his family operated B&W Grocery in downtown Whitney before purchasing Kountry Grocery in 1983 from Bush's Grocery. Randy was a strong and steady presence in the Whitney area, known not only for his work ethic but for the way he mentored and guided many employees throughout the years. The store became a cornerstone of the community until it was sold to David's Supermarket in 2002. Before retiring, Randy continued working part time in Whitney, including time with R&C Machine and Lonestar Stone. No matter where he worked, he was known for his dedication, reliability, and the relationships he built along the way.
Randy had a deep love for the Lord and for his family. He also found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and created many cherished memories traveling to places such as Costa Rica, Colorado, and Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William "Bill" Wood, in 2004.
Randy is survived by his children: Robert Wood and wife Jessica of Whitney; Denise Callaway and husband Greg of Whitney; Angela Wood-Bean of Whitney; and Thomas Hollenbach and wife Mica of Everman. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Marcus Symons, Sarah Cantrell, and Mason Symons.
He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his grandchildren: Mitchell Wood; Kaylann Atchison and husband Clay; Aurora Wood; Ariya Wood; Aliza Wood; Colton Callaway and wife Paige; Dillon Callaway and wife Ashley; Ashley Loggins and husband RL; Gavin Bean; Dayton Bean; Cayden Cantrell, Taelyn Symons, TJ Hollenbach and wife Jackie, Kaylea Arif and husband Ryan, and Aaron Hollenbach, along with 14 great-grandchildren who will carry on his memory.
Randy's life was a testament to hard work, community, and the importance of family. His presence in Whitney and in the lives of those who knew him will not be forgotten. Though his absence leaves a deep void, his love, lessons, and legacy will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved. We will carry his memory in our hearts, hold tightly to the lessons he taught us, and find peace in the promise that this is not goodbye forever. Through our faith, we know we will see him again.
Celebration of Life for Randy will be Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 11:00am at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney.
